Our Story
A design studio for whole rooms.
Transom House puts together complete rooms, shows them the way a designer would present them, and will see each one all the way into the house.
The name
Light before the door opens.
A transom is the window above a door: the small, often overlooked part of a house that lets light into the hall before anyone opens it.
We took the name because that is the work we like best. The decisions that make a room feel right before anyone can say why.
How we choose
Seven rooms we believe in.
We would rather show you seven rooms we believe in than seven thousand products. Every room starts with the house: the light, the proportions, the way people actually live in it.
Then every piece earns its place. If a piece does not make the room better, it is not in the room.
How it will work
A whole room, without the hundred decisions.
-
Choose a room
Start with a finished room, designed as a set. Every piece will show its dimensions, its materials and its lead time.
-
Take it whole, or one piece
Order the entire room, or only the pieces your house needs. A room is a starting point, not a rule.
-
Delivered into the room
Larger pieces will arrive by white glove: carried in, unpacked, set in place, and the packaging taken away.
Questions
Before we open.
When does the first edition open?
Soon. The list hears first, with the pieces, the prices and the delivery dates, before anything is announced anywhere else.
Can I order today?
Not yet. Nothing on this site is for sale until the first edition opens. Join the list and we will write the day it does.
What will a room cost?
Each room will be priced at the sum of its pieces. Every price will be shown in full on the room page, with nothing added at checkout but tax and delivery.
Where will you deliver?
We are starting in California. Delivery areas and dates publish with the first edition.
Are the photographs real rooms?
They are our design studies: rooms composed to show the direction, the palette and the proportions. When the first edition opens, every piece will be shown in its own photographs.
Who is behind Transom House?
